The site of mythical lion slaying is known as Nemea, which is located in the Peloponnese region of Greece. According to Greek mythology, the famous hero Heracles slew the Nemean Lion in this region as the first of his twelve labors. The Nemean Lion was a monstrous creature with an impenetrable hide and sharp claws, making it invincible in battle. Heracles was able to slay the creature with his bare hands, as he was gifted with incredible strength by the gods. The area is home to the ancient Nemea Stadium where athletic games were held in honor of Zeus.
